CHAPTER II

PETER FURLAN is a saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator whose striking originality is demonstrated on his albums, Peter Furlan Project – Between The Lines, Peter Furlan Project – Live At Maureen’s Jazz Cellar. In addition to leading The Peter Furlan Project and The Peter Furlan Trio & Quintet, he co-leads the group Mr. GONE (mrgoneband.com). He has performed and recorded with Terumasa Hino, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Henderson, Thomas Chapin, Don Alias, Frank Foster, Brian Lynch, John Hart, Mike Richmond, Terry Silverlight, Cameron Brown, Steven Bernstein, Duane Eubanks, Vinnie Cutro, David Budway, Roger Rosenberg, Ratzo Harris, Richie Morales, Mahavishnu Project, The Temptations, 10,000 Maniacs, The Four Tops and many others. The diversity of these musical experiences inform Peter’s comprehensive and eclectic creative palette.

A New York native currently living in Congers, N.Y., Furlan studied with Jackie McLean and Paul Jeffrey at Hartt Conservatory of Music and Rutgers University. In the 1990s, he studied composition with Jim McNeely and received Master Degrees in jazz composition and jazz performance from New York University.

He is currently affiliated with a variety of educational programs in New York and New Jersey.  He is the founder, artistic director and conductor of the Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble (www.ryje.com) in Rockland, NY, jazz ensemble director at Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ,  jazz ensemble director for Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ, vice-president of the Rockland County Jazz and Blues Society (www.rcjbs.org), active member of the Rockland County Music Teachers Guild and a private woodwind teacher in Rockland County, NY with 35 years experience.
